New PRASE Web 2.0 Launched

Don Johnson Design launched a new and improved version of PRASE (Page Rank Assisted Search Engine) on Friday. The response to the original Beta version was so impressive that we went right to work trying to create a truly unique search engine to go along with the existing PageRank tool of the original PRASE..

There have been many changes and improvements to the new version. The first and most noticeable difference is the search engine aspect of the new and improved PRASE. Users will now have the ability to look through the three major search engines and sort them into one index. The PRASE rankings are a result of combining Google, Yahoo, and Live into one and sorting them according to relevance. For example, if a result appears in the top ten of each of the separate results then it will be placed in the top spot on the PRASE results. This is an attempt to solve the age old dilemma of which search engine produces the best, most relevant results. Our theory was that if a result was strong enough to appear in all three search engines then it was pretty safe to assume that it was a relative result. We have tailored the results of the PRASE index so that when merged, you will receive the most relevant results.

There are other major changes. These changes include the use of AJAX to enable an advanced search feature, which disappears when selected. Also, the user has the capability to use PRASE as a search engine or a PageRank tool. All of the same options that appeared for the original PRASE are there, such as start at, PageRank, and which search engines the user wants to use in the creation of their results.

Please take the time to use the new and improved PRASE located at www.prase.us .

PRASE Introduced

Don Johnson Design, LLC. is proud to unveil a new search engine. PRASE stands for Page Rank Assisted Search Engine and is the first Search Engine to combine Google, Yahoo, and MSN, while eliminating all duplication. PRASE also sorts all results several times, the first sort is by search engine, the second is according to PageRank, and the third sort places those pages with the same page rank in descending order according to their search engine ranking. For example, those pages with the same PageRank (let’s say PR5) are then sorted by their index ranking so that the highest ranking will appear first, no matter where the URL came from (Google, Yahoo, or MSN). In cases of a tie in search engine ranking the tie goes to the site coming from the search engine with the largest share of the market (i.e. Google before Yahoo).

What is so special about PRASE? First, it allows those who are building links for their site to save time by knowing in advance what the PageRank is for a given site. It even allows a user to select a specific PageRank target range. One could search for sites with a PR2 up to a PR6, or a PR4 only. PRASE sorts through the first ten results from each engine and provides a completely unique search for the user. Secondly, PRASE parses the results from all three search engines and eliminates duplicate URLs so that there is no duplication of content. Third, it lists the actual ranking of the URL in the various search engines. Fourth, PRASE enables a search to begin at any number. Why is this important? If a person is attempting to build links and has already completed several pages, that person can simply pick back up where they started without having to click the next 10 results over and over. This also enables the user to search deeper into the listings to find potential links from sites that are buried in the indexes. Finally, PRASE narrows the quest for link building by providing searches on multiple engines at the same time. This attribute completely eliminates the need for searching for link partners on several different search engines at different times.

Eventually, PRASE will have the capability to act as its own search engine. The PageRank sort will always be an option, however, in future versions PRASE will concentrate on the combination of the major search engines and the elimination of duplicate content. All of the information provided by these engines will be presented in an orderly fashion with the goal of providing a super search engine to the public.

Don Johnson Design Switches to CSS

After doing some research and diving headfirst into the wonderful world of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), we have decided to re-code our entire website in CSS and XHTML. Our site will look exactly the same; however, there will be less actual code on all of our pages. CSS enables us to make changes much quicker and separates the design from the content. It also increases our accessibility in an attempt to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

In addition to making our lives easier when updating the website, CSS will enable search engine spiders to view our content easier. In theory, the more content a website has the better search engines like the site. We are constantly adding content to our site and want to reduce the amount of code that interferes with the search engine robot's ability to read our content.

Therefore, we have derived a ratio that we are testing on our site. It is called the Content to Code Ratio. You may read additional information on the Content to Code Ratio in our Search Engine Optimization section of our website. Again, it is just a theory; however, it could prove useful in the long run.

February 7th, 2005MSN Search Engine

MSN Search officially switches to its own technology. This new change in their philosophy of organizing content will affect search engine rankings and will introduce a new power player in the industry. MSN chose to stop using Yahoo! as their primary source of search results and to go out on their own for the first time. What does this mean? It means that Google and Yahoo! now have some significant competition for those who are interested in finding specific search results. IMO, over time Google will lose its strong hold on the search engine industry. To find out more information about this topic, please view this article by Danny Sullivan.
